Star of ‘Survivor’s Remorse’ and ‘MADtv’ Remembered for Her Talent, Humor, and Zest for Life
Erica Ash, the multi-talented comedian, actor, singer, and model, has died at the age of 46. Best known for her roles on ‘MADtv,’ ‘Survivor’s Remorse,’ ‘The Big Gay Sketch Show,’ and ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood,’ Ash passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
“After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she transitioned peacefully surrounded by her loved ones,” reads a statement from her family. “Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and genuine zest for life. Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.”
Ash’s career was as diverse as it was impressive. She began her journey on stage, featuring in productions such as Broadway’s ‘Baby It’s You,’ Disney’s touring production of ‘The Lion King,’ and the Off-Broadway show ‘Soul Doctor.’ The daughter of a U.S. Army Captain/Chaplain and a math teacher, Ash spent her formative years moving frequently, including time in Germany. She graduated from Emory University with a pre-med degree but soon followed her passion for performance, moving to Japan to pursue a career in modeling, singing, and acting.
Many in the entertainment industry paid tribute to Ash. Siedah Garrett, among others, shared heartfelt words: “Moved to tears at the passing of beautiful, talented & funny actor from ‘Survivor’s Remorse’… Erica generously worked with me on an original jailhouse skit I submitted to Netflix.”
Christopher Landon, who directed Ash in ‘We Have A Ghost,’ described her as “a light. Beautiful, funny, beyond talented. I was blessed to work with her and call her my friend. My heart goes out to her family and friends right now.”
Ash’s extensive television career included notable roles in ‘In Contempt,’ ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show,’ ‘Family Reunion,’ and ‘Shades of Blue.’ Her film credits include ‘Scary Movie V,’ ‘Horror Noire,’ ‘Sister Code,’ ‘Kristy,’ and the basketball comedy ‘Uncle Drew.’
Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ash’s name to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or other breast cancer charities.
Erica Ash leaves behind a legacy of laughter, talent, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew her. Her contributions to entertainment and the joy she brought to audiences will be remembered always.
